Violin Concerto No.1 is part of the album project Opus I: Orbis Luna, composed and conducted by Nawaf Gheraibah. The work was recorded live with the Vanguard Symphonic Orchestra in Cairo at the Nehad Saleiha Theatre in January 2025, capturing the intensity and expressive depth of a full symphonic performance.
Written in three movements, the concerto unfolds as a deeply emotional work centered on the theme of loss—the loss of a loved one. The first movement stands independently, presenting the central musical ideas while allowing the solo violinist to demonstrate expressive depth and technical mastery, culminating in a virtuosic cadenza.
The second and third movements are performed attacca, flowing directly into one another. The second movement emphasizes lyrical control and sensitivity, highlighting the violinist’s ability to shape the melodic line with precision and emotion. The third movement then bursts forward with energy, displaying speed, agility, and brilliant technique, bringing the concerto to a powerful conclusion.
The concerto is performed by the remarkable violinist Salma Sorour, widely regarded as one of Cairo’s youngest and most distinguished prima violinists. Her performance brings both virtuosity and emotional depth to the work, giving voice to the concerto’s themes of memory, reflection, and resilience.
